Homeownership Assistance (HOA) Program

Overview

Individuals and families may use Housing Choice vouchers for homeownership under certain conditions. The use of vouchers for homeownership will give many low-income individuals and families the opportunity to purchase their own homes.

ELIGIBLE PURCHASERS

If you meet the criteria below, please fill out the application below as part of your pre-approval process. You must complete an Introduction to Homeownership class at the Fort Wayne Housing Authority. Once you have been determined eligible you will be contacted by the homeownership specialist to provide you with the next steps to the homeownership program.

  • First-time homeowner
  • Head of household who has been an FSS program participant for at least one year and meets the obligations of their contract of participation
  • At least one or more family members have been employed full-time for a minimum of twelve consecutive months prior to the application (does not apply to a family that includes an elderly or disabled member)
  • Current participant of the Housing Choice Voucher Program
  • Head of household or an adult over 18 years of age who has been in continuous occupancy for a minimum of one year
  • Current with rent, utilities and any other required payments
  • In good standing with lease compliance and lease terms for a continuous period of 12 months immediately preceding the application
