FORT WAYNE HOUSING AUTHORITY RECEIVES FCC FUNDING
Housing Authority teams with IU Fairbanks for state-wide study
FORT WAYNE – Fort Wayne Housing Authority (FWHA) has been awarded $403,432 in grant funding from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from the Affordable Connectivity Outreach Grant Program – Pilot Program Grants (ACP Outreach Grant Program). The ACP Outreach Grant Program is an FCC benefit program that helps ensure households can afford the broadband they need for work, school, healthcare, and more. The funds are provided by the FCC to eliminate technology barriers and create access for underserved and unserved communities.
Eligible FWHA residents and the underserved population of the Fort Wayne community may apply for funding to cover and assist with costs associated with internet services. Residents may also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute between $10 to $50 toward the purchase price.
“Fort Wayne Housing Authority remains committed to pursue resources that will address barriers that prevent equal access to technology that will allow them to be competitive,” said FWHA Executive Director and CEO George Guy. “Communication, work, and education are almost impossible without access to technology. Our goal is to ensure residents are no longer considered an underserved population and have clear access to resources. Opportunities like the ACP Outreach Grant Program will address the systemic inequities that exist within our community and ensure that the most vulnerable in our communities are served,” he added.
